Background

The Professional Community Engagement Plan aims to highlight to the Aboriginal community of the New South Wales. Aboriginal people have always been residing in the Sydney with their total territory stretching along the southern side of the Sydney harbour from the southern head to Petersham. I have taken the topic of aboriginal community since the community interests me. Being a student in the field of health care and working in this field, I deeply feel the issues of the aboriginal community members and their raising concern regarding their wellbeing and the discrimination for the provision of their rights. I believe that working for and with this community members is essential due to their importance in regards of what they offer to the society and towards the individual. Since the beginning of the 1970 era, the indigenous community people have been playing a leading role in building of the community controlled services in areas such as the welfare services, local government, health and the housing. The growth in the support of the government for the indigenous organization for the management of the programs and the services continues which furthermore includes the national representative bodies and the local community (Abs.gov.au. 2018). Despite of the various involvements and the rigorous engagement of the aboriginal community of the New South Wales, there lies some of the major issues related to the people of the community which has been degrading through out the years. This includes the status of the wellbeing of the community people, the wide inequality gap among the community people as compared to the other people in the country (Raman et al. 2017). Further additional challenges towards the wellbeing of the community people have been a topic of discussion for the government of Australia. The report highlights the chances or the opportunities for explaining how the community people can develop themselves together with the proper addressing of their requirement to flourish.

The Aboriginal community of the New South Wales have a unique place in the country of Australia as one of the original inhabitant of the land.Through out the county, the people belonging to the aboriginal community of the New South Wales maintains a string connection towards their language, culture and the traditional customs of the lands while furthermore contributing to the management of the environment, the economic development and the cultural identity of Australia.

One of the current challenges faced by the aboriginal community of NSW is the importance of their basic human rights. There has been innumerable instances and problems where the aboriginal community people are facing high ends of challenges for the protection of the human rights of the people of the community (Ridani et al. 2015). The right towards the distinct status and the culture, the rights to the self determination and the right towards the land are some of the basic factors monitoring the needs and the requirements of the people of the community in NSW

The community, the aboriginal in the New South Wales holds distinctive rights as the first people of the Australia, though their rights are often not given preferences and often the community people are subjected to major discrimination. There has been some of the major improvements and initiatives by the government of Australia regrading the lifestyle and the issues of the aboriginal community people (Ferguson et al. 2017). However, the community of the aboriginal in the New South Wales still continues to be one of the major vulnerable group of the communities in the entire community group in the country of Australia (Abs.gov.au. 2018).

Challenges Faced by Aboriginal Community of New South Wales

According the census data of the year 2015, more than 670,000 Aboriginal community people were residing in the country of Australia which constitutes about 3 percent of the Australian population (Funston and Herring 2016). By the year 2031, it has been assumed that this particular number will exceed more than 1 million with the community of the aboriginal people consisting of 3.9 percent of the entire population. Furthermore it has been found that 36.2 percent of the community people of the aboriginal community reside in the major cities, among which 43.8 percent of the community people resides in the regional areas, 7.7 percent live in the remote areas and 13.7 percent lives in very remote areas (Aung et al. 2018). Further data in the census reveals that the more than one in three of the community people in the aboriginal group were fewer than 36 percent as compared to the one fifth of the non aboriginal community people. Further data reveals that from the year of 2011, more than 11  percent of the aboriginal community people speaks the indigenous language at their home (Ferguson et al. 2017).

Based on the challenges stated above, one of the major factors that needs to be highlighted and analysed is the outline and the analysis of the health equality of the community people with the generation. The poor and the degrading status of the health of the aboriginal community people of the New South Wales is one of the well known fact. Furthermore, some of the major substantial inequalities exist among the community people and the other Australian communities in the field of communicable and the chronic disease, health status of the infants, status of the mental health and the status of the life expectation. There has been a furthermore number of some of the disturbing trends among the aboriginal community people that tend to reveal some of the entrenched crisis of the health (Funston and Herring2016). Higher rates of the chronic disease like the renal failure, cardio vascular diseases, diabetes are some of the common issues related the health status of the community people that needs to be addressed by the government of Australia since these factors possess as one of the factors of the alarms that highlights the low mortality or the high death expectancy ratio among the aboriginal community people and the normal people of the country (Lee et al. 2016). The continued rate of the high poor heath status among the community people together with the continued trend of the poor access to the primary health care by the people of the community are the contributors for the degrading condition of the community people. Besides the alarming rate of the health issues inside the community one of the major problem for the people of the aboriginal community is the overcrowding of the population with the issue related to the poor housing conditions. One of the major factor related to this is the issue of homelessness. Often it has been reported that the community people are subject to homelessness in Australia together with some of the other forms of the violence. The problems in the housing together with the issue of the house lessness tends to cause potential threat of the violence within the all the people of the communities . The housing and the house lessness issue furthermore leads to the family violence and the domestic violence among the community of the Aboriginal (Jaravani et al. 2016). Though the data regarding the incidents of the domestic violence cannot be noted due to the lack of proper documentation and report, the factor of the violence within the community is one of the major   issues.

Basic Human Rights of Aboriginal Community

Apart from the factors of the violence within the aboriginal community of the New South Wales, there exist some of the other situational factors including the aspects like the substance abuse, the alcohol, the problems in the family, factors of unemployment and the loss of the family members. The drugs, alcohol and the related violence in the contemporary aboriginal community is one of the copying strategies against the numerous stress and the conflicts. These strategies has further destructive , social and psychological consequences to the lives of the people in the community.

The Prioritizing of the need or the requirements of the community:

  • Developing of the inclusiveness within the intercultural communities in New South Wales
  • Increase in the employment opportunities by engagement and recruitment of the aboriginal members (Hendrickx et al. 2016)
  • Improved government interventions and measures towards the community regarding their health status and low mortality rate

The aboriginal community of the NSW has been the subject to various categories of discrimination and their in community violence and issues which readily targets their economic wellbeing together with their health status (Sinclair et al. 2016). The goals for the assignment is to highlights the performance framework  for the information and implementation of the policy developments with the collaboration to the government of Australia for the effective monitor of the progress in the wellbeing of the aboriginal community people. There has been some of the initiatives in the past decades by the government of Australia, but the as per the current scenario and the high death rates, some of the main and targeted goals for the aboriginal community of New South Wales are the following.

  • Closing of the life expectancy gap within the generation by the year 2031
  • Ensuring that all the aboriginal youngsters in the remote communities of NSW have proper access to early childhood education (Hengel et al. 2015)
  • Halving of the unusual gap of unemployment outcomes among the aboriginal community members and the other people in the country
  • Halving of the gap in the rate of mortality for the children in the aboriginal community within the decade of the next 5 to 6 years.

The government of Australia aims of setting the goal for the investment of $4.8 billion in the strategy for the improvement of the lives of the aboriginal people in the NSW. The factors include the jobs, land and the economy, the wellbeing and the safety, the improvement in the culture and the capabilities. Thus the main goal is to close the health and the economic gap of the aboriginal community through the proper implementation of human rights based approach together with the equality plans and the realistic targets supported by the government of Australia.

As per the above assessment the identified issues of the aboriginal community people targets their pertaining health issues, their discrimination and the unfulfillment of their rights towards their economic status and their basic rights towards the life. As a member of the community and working with the people of the aboriginal community it is thus important to resolve and aim towards the maximisation of the success regrading the goals of the aboriginal community. The growth in the support of the government for the indigenous organization for the management of the programs and the services continues which furthermore includes the national representative bodies and the local community. There has been innumerable instances and problems where the aboriginal community people are facing high ends of challenges for the protection of the human rights of the people of the community. The rights of the aboriginal community people are still a big question and challenge which is affectingtheir entire community in Australia. Thus it is important to create a performance framework for the information and implementation of the policy developments with the collaboration to the government of Australia for the effective monitor of the progress in the wellbeing of the aboriginal community people.
