Key leadership traits

Leadership is defined as the act of managing group of people or organization. In the modern era, the role of leaders have enhanced where the overall work carried out by them is considered to be highly significant. Further, leadership involves establishing the clear vision, delivering proper information and knowledge to realize that vision. Apart from this, the main task of the leader is to balance the interest of various stakeholders (Srivastava, 2015). The key traits of leader involve emotional stability, decision maker, enthusiasm, social boldness, etc. All these traits make leader effective and enhance their capability to conduct operations. Considering the present study leadership style of Mr. Narendra Modi has been discussed along with the traits.  The key reasons have been stated in the report due to which Mr. Narendra Modi is regarded as the effective leader.

Traits of a leader theory

Leaders traits are associated with the overall qualities which leader possess, and it allows for the smooth functioning of the operations. Further, the key traits of a leader are as follows:

Emotional stability: It is one of the most significant traits where good leader possesses the ability to control frustration. Further, they have psychological maturity to deal with different things.

Enthusiasm: Basically leaders are perceived as expressive and energetic. They are open to change and are motivated to conduct the assigned tasks efficiently (Northouse, 2015). In the case of Mr, Modi individual prefers to play the drum in Japan and gave answers to all the questions in interview confidently. This supported him to become the real motivator for the team members.

Self-assurance: Self-confidence is the major trait of the leader. Further, they have no guilt and require no approval from others.

Team orientation: Leader mainly focuses on team work, and they try to maintain the healthy relationship with others for accomplishing the desired objectives. For instance, in the case of Mr. Narendra Modi, the individual has well-maintained relation with leaders of other nations where the main focus is on the development of the nation.

Dominance: Leaders are regarded as competitive, and they enjoy at the time of dealing with the obstacles. They are well aware of dealing with others. Narendra Modi has full control over the nation and individual is efficient enough in searching for the alternatives at the time any specific issue is faced (Times T. E., 2017).

 Tough mindedness: Successful leaders are considered to be practical and logical. Further, they are comfortable with the criticism and are very poised.

Leadership style of Mr. Narendra Modi

Compulsiveness: Considering these leadership trait leaders are precise in social interaction, and they have self-control. Further, they know how to build their own reputation and are careful while making decisions. For instance, Narendra Modi believes in social interaction and through his work individual can build his own reputation.

Leadership is regarded as the ability to inspire or influence others towards the leader’s goal. Further, to accomplish any type of goal, it is the moral responsibility of the leader to motivate individuals so that they can perform efficiently. Considering the case of Mr. Narendra Modi his leadership style is quite famous where individual possess the real capability to run the entire nation named India. Mr. Modi set goals and controls manpower with the motive to accomplish the individual tasks (Pal, Chandra, & Vydiswaran, 2016).  The range of traits present within Mr. Narendra Modi involves works for the development of the nation, good decision maker, works for the betterment of society, encourages team members, etc.

So, these are some of the key leadership traits which make leaders different from others. In the case of Mr. Narendra Modi the key traits which make him different from other leaders are as follows:

Perception management: Narendra Modi possess the attribute to manage his personal image, and during tension within the party along with many dictators in the Gujarat BJP, the individual was able to extract most out of this situation (Bhandari, 2016).

Priorities: Main priority of Mr. Narendra Modi is systematic along with the structural change of the government. For example, the individual mission is to turn India into manufacturing hub. So, this highlights that main priority of the leader is the development of the nation and not in other areas which are irrelevant (Times, 2014).

Leadership Theory

In order to support the overall effectiveness of Mr. Narendra Modi as a leader, the trait theory of leadership is quite effective. Further, it is based on the attributes of leader where both successful and unsuccessful leaders are involved. The core traits determined with the help of theory are as follows:

• Self confidence
• Honesty and integrity
• Emotional maturity
• Achievement drive
• Cognitive ability

All these traits support in making the leader successful, and the majority of the traits are possessed by Mr. Narendra Modi which allows him to work for the betterment of society. Apart from this, the individual is highly motivated due to which main preference is on taking challenging tasks such as technological change, bringing change in the political system of the nation, etc. In comparison with other Indian leaders, the leadership qualities which Mr. Narendra Modi possesses are highly unique, and they are utilized properly for the benefit of the nation (Fuccha, 2017).

Considering the leadership style along with the traits various live examples of Mr. Narendra Modi has been undertaken. The best example can be taken from the development of Gujarat where Modi brought innovation in the governance, promoted the education of girl child, etc.  These examples are quite effective to understand how Mr. Narendra Modi has played the significant role in the development of the nation.

Motives of a leader

Leadership motives are based on four key elements which involve drive and achievement, power, strong work ethic and tenacity. Considering the power motive which highlights the ability of the leader to influence others, spending time, determining ways to alter behavior, etc. Drive and achievement motive which takes into consideration the efforts applied by the leader to accomplish the own goal. It highlights the ways through which leader handle risk, receives feedback about their performance and sets goals (Mendoza, Orea-Amador, & Kendall, 2016). Strong work ethics which highlights that they are hard workers, believes in the group task, for example, Mr. Narendra Modi is one of the best examples of the hard worker where individual determines various areas within Indian where development is possible such as in agriculture sector, technology, etc.

Further, the individual has always worked for the betterment of the nation and has worked on the key areas where the performance of nation lacks behind. Apart from this, Mr. Narendra Modi is considered to be the strategic leader where individual possess an ability to influence others to make day to day decisions. Moreover, an individual can inspire the entire nation (Pal, 2015).

The individual has adopted proper work ethics, and every task is carried out through proper planning.  Tenacity is the last motive where leaders are efficient enough in facing obstacles, and they have a sense of purpose to accomplish what they desire for instance Mr. Narendra Modi main goal is to decrease the level of corruption from Indian political system. So, this goal has been accomplished up to some extent through an introduction of new currency.

Effectiveness of a leader 

The effectiveness of a leader is measured by work carried out through the traits that individual possess. Building the next generation as one of the element makes leader effective where leader focuses on the development of human capital (Nichols, 2016). For example, Narendra Modi as a leader focuses on the development of team members so that they can contribute to the success of the nation. Individual focuses on sharing knowledge and expertise with other. Engaging talent makes leader effective where the leader must always engage individuals who are talented and can contribute to an accomplishment of goals. The individual has the power to motivate other with the help of key leadership traits such as emotional stability, enthusiasm, self-assurance, etc.

Elements that make a leader effective

Shaping the future element makes the leader effective for instance Mr. Narendra Modi has set targets for future which are associated with the development of Indian market regarding technology and every sector is considered. This directly supports in the effectiveness of the leader. A true leader always works for the betterment of society rather than focusing on personal benefits (Northouse, 2015). This is directly applicable in the case of Narendra Modi where every effort is favourable for the society. Therefore, with the help of this, it can be clearly stated that all the key elements identified above make leader effective.

Conclusion

The entire study carried out has supported in knowing about leadership along with the traits which make them successful. This has been directly supported by the examples of Mr. Narendra Modi as a leader where the role played by him is highly appreciable. All the unique qualities have made individual different from others. Apart from this, the trait theory has supported in knowing about the major traits which every leader must possess for enhancing personal ability to manage tasks and conducting operations.
